Books done
wisely.
We are a hybrid publisher, which means we put our editors, designers, and distribution behind your book — and you keep the rights to it. Thirty-eight years, and every title behind this page is one we said yes to.

The house
A publisher is a
set of decisions.
Which manuscripts to take. Which editor to hand them to. What the cover should be. Where the book goes once it exists. We have been making those decisions since 1988, and we make them alongside our authors rather than over their heads. You see every proof. You approve every cover. You keep every right to the book with your name on it.

The Red Coat
Laura Raines and Beth Raines
After a near-fatal lightning strike, tenacious nine-year-old Ellie enlists the help of her brilliant and bossy sister Kate to solve a two-century-old mystery and free the spirit of a Redcoat soldier while keeping her new extrasensory ability a sister secret. A delight for middle-grade history lovers, this story about love, loyalty, and acceptance provides a glimpse into the Pennsylvania campaign of the American Revolution that’s as complex and exciting as it is factual.

Five steps, and
you are in all of them.
Nothing here happens to your book without you. This is the same sequence every Warren title has gone through, whether it was a picture book or a nine-hundred-page memoir.
-
Visualization
We agree on what the book is before anyone touches it.
The first conversation is about your book as an object: format, length, audience, what it should feel like in a hand. If this is your first book, we walk you through what each of those choices costs and buys. Nothing is commissioned until we are describing the same book.
-
Editing
Structure first, then sentences, then commas.
Our editors work in passes — substantive editing for structure and flow, copy-editing for the line, proofreading last. They also handle citations and clear permissions for anything you quote. You see and approve every change.
-
Design
Cover and interior, custom, and yours to approve.
People do judge a book by its cover, and a cover that looks homemade caps your sales before the first review. Every Warren interior and jacket is designed from scratch for the book it belongs to. You see proofs and sign off before anything goes to press.
-
Distribution
Listed with Ingram, fully returnable, worldwide.
Every title goes into Ingram's catalog marked fully returnable, which is the status a bookstore needs before it will order a copy. That is what puts a Warren book on a shelf in Charlotte, in Blackwell's, and in a library system in Queensland.
-
Partnership
The book is out. We are still working on it.
Publication is the middle of the job, not the end. Every contract includes marketing, and our team keeps working the book afterwards — reviews, signings, press, retail placement. Warren titles have sold anywhere from a few hundred copies to a few hundred thousand.
Author in focus
John Schwartz
Virginia
Born in the Netherlands, John Schwartz spent his career in international trade and development — in Holland, in Switzerland, and at the World Bank in Washington, DC — which took him through Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the United States.
He is the author of a fictionalized memoir, Some Women I Have Known; a romance novel, Enchanting the Swan; and a corporate novel, Francine: The Coalminers' Dragon. His short story collections are Audrey, A Cherished Memory, about the film star Audrey Hepburn, whom he knew through his family, and Shiver, Snicker, Schmooze. He has also summarized thirteen novels by his grand-uncle, the once wildly popular Dutch novelist Maarten Maartens, mainly in Maartens' own words.
John lives in Virginia, near his children and grandchildren, and enjoys hearing from readers.
In their words
Ask the people
we have published.
In my thirty-five years as a writer with projects encompassing film, television, and novels, working with Warren Publishing on my family comedy novel Raft was the best creative collaboration of my career. From our very first interaction, Mindy Kuhn and her team thoroughly understood my book and my goals for it. Through the editing, book jacket design, and marketing processes, we were always in sync, and I felt supported and heard in a way that made the entire experience pure joy.
As a debut author, my knowledge of the publication process was beyond basic. Thankfully, Warren Publishing offered me a contract for my women's fiction debut and immediately started educating me on publishing processes. Mindy Kuhn and her incredible team are truly amazing — always so accessible, knowledgeable, and responsive! Warren embraced my book, my vision, and turned my dream into a successful reality.
Crafting my memoir was one of the most important projects of my life. My story was emotional and sometimes challenging to write. Choosing the right publisher to collaborate on my book was a critical decision. I can't say enough good things about the team at Warren Publishing and will be forever grateful for their guidance. From the first day I partnered with them, I always felt they had my best interest in mind.

For National Poetry Month, a look at Amanda Gorman — twenty-three, the first National Youth Poet Laureate, and already changing what a poem can do in public.
Why do writers write?
A physician of thirty years on why she turned a broken healthcare system into a novel, and why a story lands where an argument does not.

Every submission is read by a person here, and every one gets an answer — usually inside sixty days, always with editorial feedback, even when the answer is no. We accept fewer than one in five. That is the point.
