Plan a visit

The house

Small enough
to answer the phone.

An independent publisher in Rock Hill, South Carolina, publishing since 1988. Three people run it. That is deliberate — you will always know who is editing your book.

How we got here

Thirty-eight years
of saying yes carefully.

Warren Publishing has been putting books into the world since 1988, through most of the ways the industry has reinvented itself since. We have watched the big houses consolidate, self-publishing arrive and shed its stigma, and the shelf space in between get very hard to reach.

Being independent is what let us keep moving. We are small, flexible, and we have relationships with our authors, our distributors, and our retailers that go back decades. When something changes, we change with it rather than waiting for a committee.

What has not changed is the process. Every book still gets a real editor, a custom cover, and a person who answers when you call. Our work has won the Garland P. Stout Award for Excellence in Publishing, Moonbeam Children's Book Awards, a Benjamin Franklin Award from the Independent Book Publishers Association, and a place on Bank Street College's Best Books of the Year.

Who you will work with

Three people,
and you will meet
all of them.

Mindy Kuhn, president of Warren Publishing

Mindy Kuhn

President

Owner since 2016

Mindy has twenty-seven years in marketing, design, and branding, and holds photojournalism and journalism graphics degrees from Ball State and a Leadership in Publishing certificate from the Yale Publishing Course. She has worked on brands from Fortune 500s to boutiques. Publication design is her specialty and she has the awards for it. She bought this company in 2016, three months after burying her father, and has not looked back.

Amy Trainor Ashby, editor-in-chief

Amy Trainor Ashby

Vice President and Editor-in-Chief

Here since 2007

Amy started as Warren's marketing assistant in 2007 and has worn most of the hats since. She holds a BA in English from Davidson, a publishing certificate from Columbia, and an MFA in creative writing from Queens University of Charlotte. She has edited children's books, fiction, memoir, nonfiction, poetry, and business books, and was named a Publishers Weekly Star Watch Honoree in 2024 as a rising talent in publishing and bookselling.

Lacey Cope, marketing director

Lacey Cope

Marketing Director

Here since 2020

Lacey came back to publishing in 2020 after a run through television production, a work-study post in a university library, and a stint as a consultant at a large self-publishing company — which is to say she has seen how the other way works. She holds a BA in communications from USC Aiken and is happiest when an author's book finds the readers it was written for.

Our traditional imprint

PipeVine Press

Our traditional imprint, founded in 2018. Two titles a year, fiction or nonfiction, acquired outright — no agent required, and no cost to the author. Every manuscript sent to Warren is read for it.

Where to find us

On actual shelves

Every Warren title is listed with Ingram as fully returnable, which is what lets a bookstore order it without risk. These are the places our books have turned up — alongside Amazon, Walmart, Barnes & Noble, and worldwide distribution across the UK, Australia, Canada, Brazil, and Germany.
